Visit Our Latest Exhibition...

"Threads Through Creation"

St Swithin’s Walcot is delighted to be hosting Threads Through Creation, a stunning exhibition by acclaimed textile artist Jacqui Parkinson, on display from 28th January to 28th February 2026.
The church will be open Monday to Saturday, 10:00am–4:00pm, with free entry for all visitors.

The exhibition will be officially opened by the artist herself, Jacqui Parkinson, who will give a special introductory talk on Wednesday 28th January at 9:30am. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear first-hand about the inspiration, process, and stories behind Threads Through Creation. All are warmly invited to join us for this inspiring opening event.

Previously displayed at Bath Abbey in early 2023, this remarkable exhibition features twelve enormous embroidered silk panels that explore the biblical story of Creation. Inspired by the poetic verses of Genesis, Jacqui Parkinson re-imagines this ancient narrative using layers of silk, hand-dyed fabrics, metallic leathers, gold leaf, and miles of thread, brought together in more than eight million stitches.

Each panel is truly impressive in scale, measuring up to 1.5 metres (8 feet) high and 4 metres (13 feet) wide. The works range from elemental, atmospheric scenes depicting the first days of creation to richly detailed and complex designs portraying the beauty of the Garden of Eden.

Jacqui Parkinson’s distinctive style is bold, vibrant, and designed to be enjoyed by visitors of all ages. While the exhibition reflects thoughtfully on God’s creation and humanity’s relationship with it, the embroidery itself is full of energy and warmth. Look out for the many delightful and quirky details, including both accurate and imaginative creatures woven into the scenes.
Families are especially welcome, with a children’s activity trail available to encourage young visitors to explore the tapestries and learn as they go.

Threads Through Creation forms part of the wider Threads Through the Bible exhibition taking place across three Bath churches. A specially designed map will be available to help visitors discover all three sequences.
We warmly invite you to come and experience this inspiring celebration of faith, creativity, and storytelling at St Swithin’s Walcot.

Journey With Us

In 2026, our Sunday mornings are shaped by the theme "Foundations for Faith" — an invitation to grow deeper as we draw near to God, the River of Life. Throughout the year, we are intentionally slowing down and leaning in, exploring how faith is strengthened through His Presence, His Mercy, His Word and His Mission. Together, we long to deepen our relationship with God and grow as disciples of Jesus — apprentices to the Master — learning His ways, shaped by His love, and sent out in His name. Whether faith feels steady or searching, this is an open invitation to come and drink deeply. As Jesus says in John 7:37–38, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink… rivers of living water will flow from within them.” We would love you to journey with us as we stay rooted in Christ and open to the leading of His Spirit
