We’re spending 2023 in the book of Acts. It’s an amazing account of the birth of the church and throughout the text there are amazing details. Today we looked at Stephen. A few weeks ago in Chapter 5 we looked at how the Christian life has significant up and downs, it’s not a story of endless comfort and pleasure, without challenges and difficulty. Stephen’s life encapsulates that, chosen as someone ‘full of the Spirit’ he eventually tragically pays for his faith in Christ, with his life, stoned to death. Today, we’re delighted that Rev Gavin Foster is joining us to share about Stephen’s life. Gavin is a vicar on the South coast, was Bishop’s Chaplain in Winchester and currently works for the Diocesan Registry in Salisbury, he also led our time away in the Gower last year. As we discover more together of what God has to say to us today, I wonder how important is your faith in Christ? Here's David preaching from Acts 6 as we continue our year-long journey through the book of Acts. Here's Tim sharing from Acts 5:12-42 as we reengaged with our year journeying through the book of Acts. Apologies for all the background noise. We were having technical difficulties in this service. Here's Tim sharing from Mark 10 on Giving Sunday. To find out more about how to financially contribute to the life of St Swithin's Church, please go to https://www.stswithinswalcot.org.uk/giving.html As we held our APCM (annual parochial church meeting) on Sunday, we took time to celebrate what God has done in the last year and look ahead to what he's calling us to. Here are some testimonies of God and work, some insights into various bits of church life as well as Tim challenging us to step out of hiding and to shine for God. Here’s Tim sharing from Acts 4:23-5:11 as we returned to our year-long series exploring the book of Acts. Here's John sharing on Easter Sunday and as we opened the gospel, to look at the resurrection of Jesus, we are confronted with big question... "What do we really believe?" As we drew together our lent series on Listening to God, we felt it important to ask this key question... What kind of God are we listening to? We were absolutely delighted to have our friend Paul Wakely join us. Paul shared on the father-heart of God and God's ongoing invitation to us to come home to Him. No matter how far gone we may feel, God longs to be in relationship with us. The homecoming party that awaits is way beyond what any of us could ever deserve. Here's Suzi sharing from Luke 10 as we continue our All Age series looking at the parables of Jesus. On Sunday we took time to remember what God has done in the past, give thanks for what he’s doing amongst us today and look forward to what we believe God is calling us into. St Swithin’s is here to build a thriving church in Walcot for the display of God’s Splendour. - Isaiah 61:3. This is expressed as we:
We will explore together and over the next month how we can continue to make that a reality amongst us and how we can all play our parts. |
